ETHNOTECHNO
ETHNOTECHNO
Fusion of Techno and Ethnic music from different cultures (african, western, etc). The fusion of Rock and Ethnic music was pioneered during the 70's by artists like Osibissa, Santana, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Earth Wind and Fire, and Mahavishnu Orchestra. In the UK Ethno Techno is the result of the mixture of cultures co-habitating in London during the last 4 decades, but the most important presence is the one of the Indian community.
The style started developing during the mid 90's under the influence of the effort of producer PETER GABRIEL -founder of the WOMAD festival- to spread African -and ethnic music in general- throught the world, which has been the work of his Real World label since the 80's.
Some of the most representative artists of this genre are TRANSGLOBAL UNDREGROUND, TALVIN SINGH, ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION, BANCO DE GAIA, The Afro-celt Sound System, and Loop Guru.
