KRAFTWERK (classic story)
They have been recognized as the definitive fathers of Techno music.
The history of Kraftwerk (meaning Power Plant) began in 1968, when Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider Esleben met at the Academy of Arts in Remschied, Düsseldorf.
In early 1970 Florian and Ralph recorded their first Organization album "Tone Float" for RCA along with Basil Hammoudi (vocals) , Butch Hauf (bass), and Fred Monics (drums). Florian played flute and violin and Ralf played organ.
In 1970 Kraftwerk released the first album, "Kraftwerk", which was produced by the legendary CONNY PLANK. The band was formed by Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider, Klaus Dinger, and Andreas Hohman. In 1971 when Dinger and Rother quit during the recording of the second album to form the legendary Krautrock band.
Kraftwerk where the first artists to introduce the use of the drum machines in Pop music in 1971("Klingklang" from "Kraftwerk 2" album) when, in the lack of a drummer, the used a primitive drum machine, changing the basic sounds with tape echo units and filtering. Influenced by KARLHEIZ STOCKHAUSEN the same as the whole Krautrock reneration, they were also pioneers in the conception of a Pop band using just electronic instruments.
In 1974, after releasing the duo set "Ralf Und Florian" they were joined by Wolfgang Flür (electronic drums) and Klaus Roeder (guitar/violin/keyboards) and recorded a series of ambient samples in the city to create sound-pictures of real environments making the engines sing. They also introduced an incredibly original show by including in the show four robots"showroom dummies" which were exact replicas of each member of Kraftwerk. This was part of their collaboration with Emil Schult who designed their image inspired by the pre-war European culture, the Russian constructivist propaganda, and the industrial art. The image of the four Kraftwerk robots became a modern icon in modern music, and the band has used this set in every tour until today.
In 1975, Roeder was replaced by Karl Bartos, and the albums "Trans Europe Express" and "The Man-Machine" strongly influenced a generation of New Wave bands. Since the 80's Karl Bartos has worked in other solo projects such as Elektric Music, and Kraftwerk still work together eventually.
The influence of this German band on the development of all kinds of electronic music is still alive more than 30 years after their birth, specially in genres like Synth Pop, Electro, and Techno.
Some of the most important artists influenced by Kraftwerk are DEPECHE MODE, AFRIKA BAMBAATAA, GARY NUMAN, 808 STATE, ARTHUR BAKER, COIL, HUMAN LEAGUE, OMD, ATOM HEART, SOFT CELL, DERRICK MAY,and DAVID BOWIE, to name just a few.
Thank you guys :)
